HOPE IN A CRISIS
Cranes are believed to be good luck. It has also come to be associated with optimism, encouragement & the folding of cranes show solidarity & support. Such is the modern evolution of symbolism. In the face of adversity, humans need to look to a symbol, an icon. They need to feel useful, as opposed to helpless. They need to be encouraged, when they are discouraged.
So the folding of cranes, a simple origami bird became a symbol of the human spirit, of unity, strength & hope, as per the legend of Sadako.
